Digital Government a place to be for technology feminists

After 100 days leading a national program for digital government for the communities (KommIT), I really would like to share some of my enthusiasm of finally working from the government side.

1. National Programs are powerful. Through a carefully tailored process the national program for the digital municipality in Norway has a sponsorship and a comitment. Norway has 428 local and 19 regional democratic elected entities. The variation in size and digital matureness is diverse. In my roadshows their impatiance to do something coordinated is facinating. The power behind the sense of urgency is driven by the demand from the citizens and the business.

2. The move in leadership attitude understanding that digital progams are needed is growing. As we move with a national program, we also start adressing the issues we have in how to partner, who to partner and when to partner across the 457 entities. I do truly believe we have to move into these challenges with an open mind looking for solutions and keeping our vision about the digital citizen as our lead-star.

3.The welcomming from the federal programs with large investments, but oriented on the federal business model is welcomming. The local and regional level through the consumption of the services gives us a great opportunity to truly understand how the digital public service model will be disrupted. Attracted to key positions in federal are smart and entusiastic technology people, matching the smartness and perceived reality in our municipalities. This algoritm is powerful in launching more and better digtial services enabling our democacy to develop and be competetive. This algoritm also enhances the citizens trust in its government, where the Nordic Countries are way ahead of other regions in the world.

Based on this I am in the process of preparing our strategy and go-to-market (can you use this words in government ?) for my boardmeeting on friday. I do hope I will gather the energy, but also adress the challenges and use my wise board to listen in and find solutions.  And as this week is ending in a celebration of female power. I am hosting a national event where I do have the privilige to be in the comittee for our national championship of women in technology. My enthusiasm is powered by all the great candidates we see are out there and how much we all want to contribute to a better society through technology.
