Accenture just published our updated Technology Vision for 2012. Our main message is that ICT is now moving from beeing a roadblock to become a driver. I do truly believe in this and will like to share with you some of my thoughts and what I will challenge our clients and people in doing the next 6-12 months.
Most important is the need for passion, and my urge to everyone is to find your passion for some technology and challenge yourself on transfering it into your mandate as a leader. As a leader you do have a mandate to lead and steer, but not to manage. Lets investigate our vision and reflect on where you can find your passion. 1. Context Based Services will be the next generation of services. As a leader do you have insight to the context produced by your organization, your clients, your partners or your citiziens, your politizans .... Most of us probably do not, because we have not programmed this as a to do. Some of us do it by occassion and accident, we need to stretch ourselves to program this. Where to take your passion ? Start making your own context and observe the usage of it. I.e I do occessaniolly publish on my feminist blog and are everytime I check stunned by the numbers of readers and their comments to content I just left there mainly fueled by my frustration of issues that is causing to much noise in the public space in conversations with other leaders.
2.Converting Data Archtitectures. I have been working with search technology since 2008, and listened in on 100's of conversations stating search is for the media-industry or for Google. Suprise, search is here and for everyone. Your company needs to have an enterprise search strategy way beyond the search-engine on your web or intranet pages. Understand how search can help you merge your structured and unstructured data and provide you with contextua experiences.
3.Industrialized IT-Services. As a leader you must challenge CIO to move out of their comfortzone of having control to share and industrialize their operations. But take your passion and look at your own habits using ICT. How industrialized (in the sense of standard, sharing and reusing) is your laptop and end-user devices. You know as a leader you must set the example, or others will not follow you.
4. Social Driven IT. So we all understand that Social Networks are here to stay, as a leader you know need to challenge yourself with so-what. Get familiar with social network for yourself and start moving your enterprise from experimenting to putting a strategy in place.
5. Paas Enabled Agility. All leaders including you and me are passionate about keeping the agility, but challenged every day, with what we too ofter refer to as admistrative burdens. Well those days might soon be gone, but you need to make the first mover. Challenge yourself and your organization with how your data platform can become your platform for innovation and how you can move and train agility on the data that is already there but today hidden in your application portefolio. And, by the way, do not forget that Excel is also an application.
6. Orchestrad analytical Security. So what are you afraid of ? Your customers, employees and competitors are leaving containers of information all the time, but you are limiting your leadership and your growth or change agent from it because you are considering it beeing security treat. Do you believe the great music you are passionate about was treated as this the first time it entered, well actually it was. Think about Woodstock as a big security treat to the music industry, or how about iTunes and learn and move on your opportunity. Move your CIO-people away from the security guard role to the security conductor role and let them play theire talent.
